Hay Delivery

All through the winter, Ted—one of our hay suppliers—delivers a load of baleage bales each week. This baleage is a mix of grass and alfalfa hay, cut in May and early June near Cohocton, NY. It’s the highest-quality baleage that we feed, so we reserve it for our weaned calves and for the steers and heifers we are finishing.
Besides bringing a load of great hay, Ted is also very fun to talk with, so I always look forward to his weekly visits.

The quality of our grass-fed beef and lamb depends on high-quality baleage, which means our relationship with Ted is central to the success of our farm. We work hard to be a consistent customer so he can be a reliable supplier for us. We’ve been purchasing hay from Ted for six or seven years now, and we hope to continue for another twenty.
We order our hay in April for the following winter, well before any of it is harvested. We always buy what we ordered—if our hay fields yield more than expected, we still honor our commitment to Ted and save our own surplus hay for the following year.

We value our relationships with local farmers and suppliers, and we patronize small family businesses like ours whenever possible. As the holiday season approaches, we are especially grateful to you, our customers and supporters, who make it possible for us to do this work and sustain these partnerships.
Thanks for reading,
