I imagine everyone is enjoying the sunshine like we are, and the animals are too. A group of ewes is due to start lambing on Friday, and we will move them into the barn tomorrow. Its nice to have them in the barn a few days early to get used to being in closer quarters than they are out in the field. The other group of ewes stays out on pasture until it is their turn to lamb in April.

One of the March jobs is frost seeding red and white clover to increase the productivity and quality of our pastures. We spread seed on areas that had a lot of winter traffic from cow hooves, leaving exposed soil. The seed gets incorporated into the soil as the ground freezes and thaws repeatedly. Usually we frost seed with a spreader attached to the tractor. This year, if things go well, we will be hiring a drone to do the seeding. If that happens, we'll have some good pictures for the newsletter next month.

It is maple syrup season here, and we're heading down to spend the rest of the evening helping to move firewood and visiting with family at the sugar house.
